It is the beginning of July 2019, and while the Atlantic and Gulf remain quiet, there is tropical activity in the Pacific. For our readers from Hawaii, Aloha!
Barbara intensified rapidly into a major hurricane.
Looking back over the weather history, Hawaii has been hit 3 times by a hurricane since 1950, but over 140 times by tropical storms and depressions during that time period.
It looks likely that Hurricane Barbara will weaken to a depression by the time that it reaches you, according to the NHC. The NHC is projecting it to come near the islands on Monday.
This storm then should be treated as a test of your personal hurricane plan. The next one might come in at full strength.
I have created an info-graphic to help you get jump-started, so if you are just starting to prepare for this hurricane season, read this post about the top items to have in your hurricane kit for Hurricane Barbara or Tropical Storm Barbara or hopefully, Tropical Depression Barbara.
Remember, it is never too early or too late to take start preparing. Good luck to anyone in the path.
