Update – Sunday July 21, 2019
There is no Hurricane Chantal, nor even a Tropical Storm with that name…yet. Today things are getting interesting in the Gulf/Atlantic region. To be specific, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has a 5-day forecast that shows a possible tropical system forming near Florida in the next 5 days.
So in a week we all might be asking “How do I prepare for Tropical Storm or Hurricane Chantal?”
I am talking about this now, as it illustrates the “problem” with waiting to prepare for hurricanes. Things are so unpredictable, that you might just have something pop-up out of nowhere.
In this case, yesterday, the forecast showed a zero chance. Today it is 20%. Just like Barry, this storm is not coming at use for a 1000+ miles over the Atlantic, like many storms often do. You have one or more weeks to get ready for those.
This low pressure area is located to the southeast of Florida and could do a hook out to sea OR perhaps got right over a bulk of the state.
So I suggest that everyone give thought now to review plans and hurricane supplies. Just in case.
